Black is a Best Seller : UNDERSTANDING

After much attention given to the media on African Americans(blacks) being killed by America, I became inspired to write this piece. I go to a point where my mind receives information and comes up with its on hypothesis to better understand the world around me. I believe European Americans(whites) were conditioned to believe or look at things a certain way. They were taught and conditioned to see the world as theirs, with no real obstacles to face. Humans are more visual than anything so if you put the perception of European Americans as kings and queens in the eyes of European American kids, you show them how great they are. But you also teach the same European story to African American kids, not showing them anything but a month of African Americans getting beat and killed to prove they should be treated fairly. Now, our African American kids have been conditioned in their minds to believe they should fight to be called human, to be respected, that they are in a group, a box, not allowing them to feel that it should just be, that they belong here. The schools forget to show them Egyptian kings and queens, royalty, togetherness, where they actually originated from in order to give them that same hope, confidence and assurance that they belong here as well…Well!

Have you ever sat down and actually listened to the words of a European American(white)? How they don’t categorize themselves into a box, a group? There minds are conditioned to not see themselves as needing permission, their words weigh more, so you, African American, disrespecting them leads you to a box, gives justification of why it is okay to take your life and no wrong is seen in doing this. How when they hear an African American speak about certain issues they face it’s an, “I’m sorry YOU are going through that,” “I KNOW YOU may have problems at home,” etc. How WE, African Americans don’t categorize them either.

Blacks are a best seller, we are cared for more even when its through hate or justification because we are valuable in their eyes. Once we die in the hands of a white person, once we go to jail for life for something minor, once we exploit our women as sex objects, once we kill each other off, once we take the father out of the home and placed them on child support, once we entertain the white world with our music and culture as if we are jesters in the presence of the kings and queens that they were taught they were, ratings for news channels skyrocket, memes are created at the drop of a dime, trends happen, black culture is copied and looked at as high fashion, a joke, a money maker, and we African Americans, play into it. Black Culture is a cash cow. Something created  in the “hood” is placed on the runway just to have African Americans pay three times as much for what they have created. Our hips, lips and fingertips are not accepted on us but European Americans are glorified once they have inserted, stitched and crafted their selves to mimic whats god-given to us, and its then called beauty.

We as African Americans, have even justified our own acts, criticized our own people who are less fortunate than the level we have obtained, to give in to the European world or propaganda, in order to have peace. But it will only eat away at you, because you African American are you. You should not have to kill yourself mentally, try to mimic the European American man to be accepted as human in the European American world, because to them you will always be their jester and their cash cow, you’ve just reached another level of money they can make off of you. Image result for black culture for whites

“The Purple Cinderella” (PUBLISHED)

Lillie Young, the woman of many titles, from motivational speaker to custom jewelry maker gives us a little peek into “The Purple Cinderella” and the meaning behind it all. Growing up in Spartanburg, SC with her father and sisters, childhood was not all peaches and cream. Lillie’s mother left when she was a baby, her father found it a bit of a hassles raising four girls on his own.
Eventually after remarrying, hell presented itself within their home. Lillie’s life became more of that of “The Color Purple” having her own misters, step brothers and a few uncles, living in her home, she and her sister were slaves to her step family. Discipline was still in the home from her father not knowing of the nightmare that were among his girls until later on in her childhood. He was also a stickler for keeping his girls in the church every Sunday, not knowing down the line it would eventually save his daughter’s life.
Molestation plays a big but silent part in many African American homes but due to image or other selfish reasons some black families keep it behind closed doors or swept under the rug, having the child to not only continue to suffer physical pain but also mental and emotional pain as well. Lillie Young tells us her story through documentary and book, to regain a sense of innocence back that was stolen from her and more importantly help those that have gone through or going through it to heal. The pain that they cover with bandages and allow their call for help to be involuntarily unsilenced, to allow them to also regain their sense of innocence back.
A strong and inspirational woman, Lillie Young is truly Next Up.

LETTER TO RAVEN-SYMONE’

Ms. Raven-Symone,

I understand staying relevant, but to discredit the woman who was told she had no rights to do anything without consent, beaten by white supremacy due to their insecurity of “power,”(maybe that was one of your ancestors, “American”), dealing with real slavery, not that in which we are subjected to through material gain; but real live whip to your back, cut off your ears, rape your children and set them on fire Slavery. To gain credit or entertainment from your rebellious statements disgusts me. I understood when you said you didn’t want to be labeled as an African American, which on any application for a passport, checking/savings account, IRA, Stock, bonds, home loan, credit card, the option that would selected for you would be African American. But I understood, basically you were speaking on the limitations set for African Americans. Side Note: If you really did your history, as you claimed, we have out shined, overseen any and all limits placed upon our culture. Now back to Ms. Tubman sweetheart. There would be no Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, Coretta Scott King, or any of these other great women, if it wasn’t for the strength, courage and risking her life to free 300+ slaves. Hell she even paved the way for some of the great men we know to have a voice, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, W.E.B Dubois, George Washington Carver. Have a couple seats sweetie since you need relevancy that bad. To be so uncouth in your thinking, to believe that you could even debate something like this is beyond bananas to me. You and your mindset are the reason why other cultures look down on us. We don’t move as a unit which makes them feel classism and disrespect is ok when it comes to African Americans.

“Any Publicity is Good Publicity, Huh?”

Good Day.

An African American Woman,

Devaluing The Pioneers

In today’s society we have devalued those that have truly paved the way for us. We honor Beyonce’ Knowles and crown her as Queen, when Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle, and even Mary J Blige are still alive, well, and kicking. People are more honored to be in Beyonce’s presence than that of these legendary moguls. Seeing them as someone that has fell off so we pay no mind and we disrespect their presence as if they are just another being. Now honestly what has Beyonce’ paved the way for? No shade, but in my opinion she has done nothing but perform. I mean even Kim Kardashian has been more glorified than these women.

It’s disheartening to know that music has become so superficial, a trend, a just for the moment type of thing. Music used to be felt in the core of your soul, from the top of your head to bottom of your feet. You could hear an Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh and still remember the words a decade later.  Everyone who wanted to be a part of music was and they were heard. Everything is a beef and the generation today only knows about someone such as the great names mentioned due to a shout out in a song, like Jimi Hendrix, from an artist of the day. You’re told to “bow down” or some Nicki Minaj sh*t for females to feel inferior of one female. The LOVE in music is gone. The “coming together” is gone.  It’s more so, trying to stay relevant than actually putting good quality music out. Rebelling by saying f*ck a fan or belittling that and those who make you who you are or you could still be singing in the mirror of your momma’s bathroom, rapping in your grandma’s basement, or on the block as a street pharmacist, living those raps you want to put out.

When I saw Common signed under GoodMusic as an artist and not promoted as the legend that is president for his work, and yes that’s a personal decision but that puts him on a low bar as a Drake, a Nicki Minaj, a Big Sean. This makes it more disrespectful to his craft, making it okay for other rappers to throw tantrums his way, as Drake has done so in the past.  I would see, in my opinion Common as someone above a Nas and JayZ. For GoodMusic to not allow his brand to be seen as such is selfish.

Now this is not just about music, and whats hot today, it’s the principle of what, why, and how do you give reason to the disrespect of the ones who have made it possible for you to be great. The artist of today disrespect the artist before the, “The Pioneers” and it has become to be okay with society. Artist aren’t even fighting for a cause, just a trend and each other. Glorifying material gain than that of touching millions who relate to their words. Paying hommage is cool, but its just for the moment. Just to say they did it then with the same breath, diss the one’s they pay hommage to and wonder why they come back at them as if they did nothing wrong.

Its never how you think its suppose to be, is it? See me, I thought we were suppose to teach our kids about the ones who paved the way, never allowing their music to die. My parents did that with me, introducing me to Loose Ends’ “Slooow Doown..Cause I can’t take the heat..Slooow dooown”, Zhane’s “Hey DJ keep playing that song all night..ooon and ooon and ooon, or Soul 4 Real’s “Myyyy Love..do you..ev-a .. dream of…candied coated.. raaaaiiin drops”, you know what I’m talking about. Glorifying them with the praise they deserve. What Happened? You felt that in your toes, in your spirit, you knew the names of the whole band. The value of music and it’s pioneers are rapidly fading away to commercial and material gain. RIP.

How Entertainment Will Never Be Forgotten

PaperArtist_2013-02-26_05-08-47 (1)

“In Entertainment, a lot of people do not understand that everything is about relation. Artist relating to their fans with their music, Actors relating to roles, and journalist relating to words. To really understand an entertainer, you must honestly be able to relate to him/her.
In interviewing any type of entertainer for a journalist, their must be some type of chemistry between the journalist and said entertainer. If not,  every word that a journalist takes from that interview, would be contradicting what they really comprehended.. Making it a word for word article or which we learned back in school, plagiarism.
Yes, you want your article to speak truth on what was stated verbatim, but verbatim is extremely boring. You must let your article “be the entertainer” not “speak the entertainer”..meaning, you are taking what you’ve learned and putting them in your own words, with your own feelings behind it.. Putting creativity all over it, so when that entertainer reads that article, they will have the feeling of amazement. That then opens doors for that magazine or network that you’re writing for, as well as yourself. The entertainer will want your magazine or network to be the only ones to have exclusives and such.
See as a journalist, you are part of what help sales, get ratings, heighten fan base, and etc. So your words, your passion, and enthusiasm, are part of the puzzle to keep an entertainer on top. And if it’s not true to you, your audience, nor the entertainer will feel it or have it felt true to them.
Music artist must relate to their fans through feeling of an 808. If you’ve ever been inside a recording booth and tried to spit lyrics, you would know that it’s all about feeling, passion, because anyone can rap or sing lyrics but not just anyone can deliver them the way the person who felt that beat, received the passion from that beat and put those words together, truly can.
Then theirs the ad-libbing and mixing down the track. With ad-libbing, it’s a feeling on top of a feeling.. That’s the point where the artist becomes their own audience and throws that second notion on the track after a verse is spoken. Like when a preacher preaches his sermon and the members say, “AMEN!” Leaving no room for air.. So when their fans listen they can feel it two times. Either to get them hype, mesmerized, reminiscing, or joyful.. Taking a fan to a euphoria, giving them the feeling that, that song was made just for them..
It is said that a “wise man” can see themselves in others. And if that “wise man” can also take what they see and apply it to help others understand with the creativity of the words they speak, music they make, or roles they play, that “wise man” is never forgotten.”-Arabia

AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON D DASH (D-BO) OF DIRT GANG, I MUST SAY THAT HIS LYRICS ARE NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED. FREESTYLING IS HIS FORTE’. HITTING EVERY BEAT, STAYING ON THE TOPIC OF THE HOOK AT HAND WITH NO PAD OR PEN.

WHEN I THINK OF D DASH, I SEE HIM AS A CYPHER OF THE SOUTH AND THAT’S WITH AN “F “AT THE END.. BECAUSE HE IS FIYAH ALL ON HIS ON. I WOULD DEFINITELY SAY HE IS A THREAT TO THE GAME. MY FIRST TIME ACTUALLY HEARING HIM WAS WHEN I WAS TRYING TO FIND OUT, WHO THE HELL WAS DIRT GANG??, WHEN THE LATE SLIM DUNKIN PASSED, WHICH WAS ALSO DIRT GANG’S CEO. I SEEN A VIDEO OF HIM FREESTYLING ON A GT FILMS PRODUCTION… BA-NANAS!!! BEING ONE OF THE MEMBERS TO CARRY DIRT GANG ON THEIR SHOULDERS, HE IS DEFINITELY REPRESENTING BEYOND THE FULLEST OF POTENTIAL. WORKING SIDE BY SIDE WITH HIS AFFILIATES, ARTIST LIKE, DAE DAE DENIRO, SY ARI DA KID, WAKA FLOCKA FLAME AND FRENCH MONTANA PLUS MANY MORE..

D DASH IS UNSTOPPABLE.. WHILE LISTENING TO “GOT TO GET IT” AND “TRAP A HOLICS” TO HIS NEW SINGLE “MY BROTHER’S KEEPER”, YOU REALLY SEE THE GROWTH WITH THE SAME INTENTIONS OF SUCCESS THAT D DASH HAS HAD FROM DAY ONE. WHEN HITTING A STUDIO SESSION, HIS WORDS ARE FELT THROUGH THE 808 BECAUSE HE SPEAKS ON TRUE LIFE EVENTS. SPEAKING ON THE GRIND TO THE RESTING OF MARIO “SLIM DUNKIN” HAMILTON. MEETING HIM IN PERSON, HE IS A VERY HUMBLE BEING, AS ALL OF DIRT GANG PRESENTS THEMSELVES TO BE. THE WHOLE SQUAD IS VERY INVITING, AND I JUST ADORE THEIR SENSE OF HUMOR.

Dae Dae Dinero: “D.G. Til The Death of We!” (PUBLISHED)

“D.G. Til The Death of We!”

rambo

A phrase Dirt Gang Brick Squad affiliate, Dae Dae Dinero lives by. Taking the streets by storm with his smash hit single “Rambo,” featured on his new debut mixtape album “Welcome to Jurassic Park,” which dropped August 20 th celebrating his late CEO Slim Dunkin’s birthday. He is making moves and setting a tone for the music of this generation.

As the Clayton County native adjusts to fame life of signing autographs in the oddest of places and fans doing whatever just to get his attention, he stays true to himself, Dirt Gang, and his entire team.

Being inspired by his brother, friend, confidant, and CEO of Dirt Gang, the late great Mario “Slim Dunkin” Hamilton, Dae Dae has took that grind mentality and set a name for himself since he picked up a mic 4 years ago; recording his first song “80’s Baby,” which features a few heavy-hitters, CEO of Dirt Gang Slim Dunkin, CEO of Bricksquad Monopoly Waka Flocka Flame, and Dirt Gang affiliate D-BO.

Dae Dae Dinero has worked with many artist and producers and as he respects all he has worked with, when speaking on chemistry 808 Mafia Southside and TM-88 truly stands out. As far as future collabs, Dae Dae Dinero respects the music of Alley Boy, Trouble and R&B singer Tosha which his fans would definitely be anticipating the cooking of that collab in the studio. However, for his next single, this charming Dirt Gang affiliate, wants to slow it down for the ladies with his song “One Call Away,” featuring Stuey Rock and D-BO.

Screenshots_2013-03-12-03-04-28

He is definitely receiving much love in the streets as he makes his debut. Experiencing firsthand, the crowd is drawn to his energy. He is definitely a definition within himself of being so true to his fans. As he approaches each event with the mind set of, “I’m just a regular person out here grinding.” He just wants people to enjoy what he is working towards and for and no doubt about it they definitely are.

It has been said, “You must know how to follow in order to lead,” and Dae Dae knows that first hand as he has supported his late CEO Slim Dunkin, in his journey of putting his name and Dirt gang on the map of the need to know. Which they also instill in those that are a part of their team that looks up to the vets of Dirt Gang.

As Dirt Gang is viewed in the light as a gang, Dae Dae explains, “Dirt Gang is an organization that consists of a few people.” He continues to say, “We are a team that provides music for the streets.” Although these accusations do not take the Dirt Gang family by surprise, it continues to humble their entire team. They are not one to start trouble however, if you listen to their music, it will definitely give you an understanding that they are not to be tested and they will definitely finished what has been started.

After Slim Dunkin’s passing the team honors him by continuing the grind that was set forth. Dae Dae says, “We have to take over where he left off, speaking on his late CEO Slim Dunkin.” As Dae Dae and his affiliate D-Bo leads and continues to motivate Dirt Gang with their work ethic, hard work, grind and humble nature, the respect they bring to their team is unlike any other. Dae Dae Dinero defines his campaign and street promo team as “true loyalty.” Having a leader such as himself to guide his team with his understanding of how to follow and what it takes to lead, his notoriety and love of his team and fans will continue to see success in this industry. –Arabia (Maserati)

Correlation Between Art & Music Artist (PUBLISHED)

“Relating music to Art, I believe music especially Hip-Hop in this generation has somewhat depicted the image if Pop Art. No disrespect to the late leading art figure of Pop Art, Mr. Andy Warhol, but some of the music in the HipHop culture has become nothing more than advertisement jingles on comic strip beats.-Arabia Karriem
In ones opinion, three artist that are more abstract to this are Dwayne “Wayne” Carter, Aubrey “Drake” Graham and John “Fabolous” Jackson.
Speaking on Dwayne “Wayne” Carter first, stage name Lil’ Wayne, is a definition within himself. Confidently competing with himself. It is instilled within Lil’ Wayne that he is the only “part of speech” that could make him lose sense of his five senses of being on top.
With use of individuality, charisma, and his own artistic view, he adapts to any 808, naming him music’s “Renaissance Man.” The creativity and versatility of his being, allows him to be outside the box, creating Surrealism of Realism.
Staying in the same lane, but different view of art form, the international artist, Drake depicts Expressionism. Understanding why Drake is apart of the loyal Young Money Camp founded by Lil’ Wayne, Drake and Wayne share a chemistry of greatness that is the definition of art, music, and it’s future as a whole.
As an artist, Drake allows one to understand him and his lyrics mentally and emotionally as he relates to his audience and opposers. Although a freshman in HipHop, Drake’s mental, mixes intellect, life, and art, all into one, making him more along the lines of one who holds a P.H.D.
The beauty of his mind on a beat, is poetry in motion. Artistically speaking realistically, Drake’s lyrical themes deal with time, love, beauty, and morality, representing the William Shakespeare of these times. Drake continuously makes room for improvement for himself with each new sonnet spoken.
Switching lanes but same destination. When speaking on Fabolous, the art form Impressionism comes to mind. Any song Fabolous puts out, be it solo or as a featured artist, his delivery and punctuality captures the essence of the subject and ones mind without detail but boldly.
As Impressionism is more often used with landscape, when relating to Fabolous, one would define it as saying that Fabolous is one of music’s most grounded artist.
Though he is an artist one feels isn’t given as much credit due to him, humbly his confident, classy, gentleman-like nature knows his place as a lyricists,  which ties these three artist together. Always making room for improvement for themselves, of each of their canvases.
Representing Cubism as one, with Wayne, Drake and Fabolous being ignorant to understanding the language of irrelevancy, they allow nothing to distract them from passed their focus. Setting them apart from having the characteristic of being a controversial artist or “beef starter.” Attaining respect for themselves, their creativity, maturity, and confidence, they continue to go harder, become more mature, and mentally stronger as beings and artists. Still learning and adapting to their past and present, these three artist allow their future to be their stepping stone. Wayne, Drake, and Fabolous stay five steps ahead of the future’s expected imagery of each genre, not forgetting the Realism of music’s Art. -Arabia
